     What's all this, then?
An Apprentice in Japan – I was fortunate enough to spend a year as a bonsai apprentice with Yasuo Mitsuya at his nursery Tokai-en in Toyohashi, Japan. Join me to see the sights, learn bonsai techniques, and witness the thousand-and-one ways I embarrassed myself. I had a wonderful time and I hope you will, too!

Profiles in Bonsai – Every tree has a story. Some stories are as interesting as the trees are beautiful. (Some are not. You be the judge.)

Beauty in the Beast – Not all bonsai are works of art. For the tree that has more warts than beauty marks, a dramatic transformation can show off the features and hide the flaws.

Bush to Bonsai – This is not a "how-to" on turning the President of the United States into a potted plant. Instead, it's a step-by-step guide to transforming untrained plant material into bonsai.

John Naka's Sketchbook – For fifty years, John Naka travelled the world teaching the art of bonsai – not only styling trees, but sketching them as well as a guide for future development. John Naka's Sketchbook contains nearly 100 of the master's drawings, showcasing his matchless sense of design and proportion.

Sketchbook Stories – Editing John Naka's Sketchbook was a labor of love. The images in that publication will live forever. Alas, that cannot be said for all the trees depicted in John's sketches. Here, we will share stories and photos of those trees that are alive and well.

Art, Bonsai, and John Naka – A special remembrance of John Naka, artist and friend.

Jack Billet: In Memoriam

House Life? – A bonsai-free feature detailing the trials and tribulations of my massive home renovation project.

About Cheryl – My life story. Well, my bonsai life story. Well, a few paragraphs of basic biographical blatherings, anyway.

– Questions? Feedback? Suggestions? Gripes? Corrections? Special requests? Contributions? Demonstration or workship inquiries? Whatever it is, please let me hear from you.

Groom for Improvement – Sometimes, just one little change can make all the difference in turning a bonsai from "special" to "spectacular".
